Menlo Park, United States – Web Desk: Meta has expanded stricter safety measures for teenage users across Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger, introducing enhanced protections aimed at limiting exposure to inappropriate content and improving online safety.
According to the company’s statement, the updated restrictions apply to teen accounts aged 13 and above and became effective globally on June 2 across all Meta platforms.
The safety features were initially introduced in the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Canada in October before being expanded worldwide. Meta said it will collaborate with the safety organization All Tech Is Human (Allies Program) to develop and test additional features designed to protect younger users online.
Under the new rules, teenage users will no longer be able to view or follow accounts that frequently share inappropriate or age-sensitive content. Such accounts will also be excluded from recommendations and search results for users under 18.
Meta noted that Instagram had already introduced some of these protections, including restrictions on searches related to potentially harmful topics such as alcohol consumption. The company has also enhanced its Limited Content Settings to provide stronger safeguards.
The updated parental controls will allow parents to further restrict access to certain content and interactions, including limiting visibility of comments on posts, as part of Meta’s broader effort to create a safer digital environment for young users.
The move comes amid increasing global scrutiny of social media platforms and growing calls for stronger online child safety measures.
