Peshawar, Pakistan – Web Desk: Pakistan’s National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has handed over assets worth more than Rs6 billion to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government as part of ongoing recoveries in the high-profile Kohistan financial corruption case.
The assets were formally transferred by NAB Chairman Lt Gen (Retd) Nazir Ahmed to KP Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah during a ceremony in Peshawar.
According to NAB, the first phase of asset recovery includes cash, gold, valuable properties, and luxury vehicles collectively valued at over Rs6 billion. The anti-corruption watchdog said the recoveries were made following a comprehensive and organized investigation into the alleged embezzlement of public funds.
Officials stated that more than Rs37 billion in government funds were allegedly misappropriated in the Kohistan financial corruption scandal, making it one of Pakistan’s largest corruption investigations in recent years.
Speaking at the event, the NAB chairman said the complex financial fraud had been uncovered through effective investigative work and praised DG NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Farmanullah and the investigation team for their efforts.
He added that the recovery process remains ongoing and that additional assets will be transferred to the provincial government after the completion of legal proceedings. He stressed that public resources are a national trust and every effort would be made to protect them.
During the ceremony, senior journalist Arshad Aziz Malik of the Jang and Geo Media Group was awarded a special shield and certificate in recognition of his role in exposing the Kohistan scandal. Jang and Geo had first reported alleged irregularities involving approximately Rs40 billion from government bank accounts in Kohistan on April 30, 2025.
