Wellington, New Zealand – Web Desk: New Zealand cricket legend and former captain Kane Williamson has announced his retirement from international cricket, bringing an end to a distinguished 16-year career.
According to details, Williamson has opted for immediate retirement, which rules him out of the remaining two Test matches in the ongoing series against England. The 35-year-old was part of the New Zealand squad for the three-match Test series but has now stepped away from international duty.
In his statement, Williamson said he had been considering the decision for some time and felt that now was the right moment to retire from international cricket. He added that representing New Zealand had always been a great honor and he gave his best in every match.
Williamson retires as one of New Zealand’s most successful Test batters, scoring 9,515 runs in 110 Test matches. He also amassed 7,256 runs in One Day Internationals and 2,575 runs in T20 internationals.
One of the defining moments of his career was leading New Zealand to their first ICC World Test Championship title in 2021. As captain, he guided the team to multiple ICC finals and semi-finals across formats.
New Zealand head coach Rob Walter described Williamson as not only a world-class cricketer but also an exceptional leader and ambassador of the game, saying his legacy would continue to shape New Zealand cricket for years to come.
