FIFA President Gianni Infantino has strongly responded to criticism of the 2026 World Cup, accusing critics of spreading negative propaganda while ignoring the tournament’s success.
Zurich, Switzerland – Web Desk: FIFA President Gianni Infantino has issued a sharp response to criticism surrounding the 2026 FIFA World Cup, accusing critics of promoting negative propaganda and baseless reports while ignoring the tournament’s overall success.
According to an international news agency, Infantino said in the statement that critics focused on spreading unfounded narratives rather than acknowledging the achievements of the tournament.
In an open letter, Infantino said millions of fans experienced joy, unity and a safe environment during the World Cup held across the United States, Canada and Mexico, but that critics remained preoccupied with searching for flaws.
He claimed that no major incident of violence or security had been reported throughout the event, and that FIFA had successfully organized the world’s premier sporting event.
However, the World Cup faced significant criticism during the tournament over US visa restrictions, certain refereeing decisions, and disciplinary matters.
Infantino said controversial refereeing decisions were common even in the world’s biggest football leagues, arguing that it was therefore unfair to single out the FIFA World Cup for criticism on that front.
He also described the participation of Iran, Haiti and other countries facing difficult circumstances as a symbol of football’s global unity, saying that sport should be kept separate from politics and that the efforts of participating teams deserved respect.
