Jordan Says It Shot Down Two Drones Targeting Its Territory

Date:

Jordan’s armed forces say they intercepted and downed two drones targeting the kingdom, as Iran’s Revolutionary Guards claim renewed strikes on US bases in the region.

Amman, Jordan – Web Desk: Jordan’s armed forces said on Monday that they successfully intercepted and shot down two drones targeting the kingdom, according to media reports, as regional tensions stemming from the Iran-US conflict continue to simmer.

In a statement, the military said the interception operation caused no casualties or material damage. However, the army did not clarify who had launched the drones or where they had originated from.

Officials gave no further details on the exact location of the interception or the type of drones involved. The armed forces said the incident is being reviewed further, and no group has so far claimed responsibility for the attempted attack.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it has dealt a major blow to US bases in Jordan over the past two weeks through ballistic missile and drone attacks. The claim has not been independently verified by Jordanian or American authorities.

The reported incident comes against the backdrop of weeks of military exchanges between Iran and the United States, which have spilled over into several neighbouring countries, including Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain. Jordan has on multiple occasions in recent weeks intercepted missiles and drones entering or approaching its airspace during the confrontation.

In addition, Iranian attacks on Kuwait and Bahrain have drawn strong condemnation from across the Middle East, with several Gulf states and regional bodies denouncing the strikes as violations of sovereignty and warning of the risk of wider escalation.

Authorities in the region have not indicated any immediate change in the security situation following Monday’s drone interception, and further details are expected as the investigation into the origin of the drones continues.
