Washington / Kuwait City – Web Desk: A U.S. pilot rescued from Iran has been transferred to Kuwait for medical treatment following a complex military operation, according to a report by The New York Times.
The report said the rescue mission faced delays after two U.S. transport aircraft were destroyed, prompting the deployment of additional aircraft into Iranian territory to extract commandos involved in the operation. Before withdrawing, U.S. forces reportedly destroyed disabled aircraft to prevent them from falling into enemy hands.
According to the report, the pilot ejected into a mountainous area after the aircraft crash. Initially, U.S. forces were unaware of the pilot’s exact location. A diversionary rescue operation was reportedly launched to mislead Iranian forces, allowing the pilot to evade capture.
The operation involved hundreds of personnel and dozens of aircraft, with the pilot reportedly moving across difficult terrain, including climbing to an altitude of around 7,000 feet to avoid detection. U.S. airstrikes were conducted to keep Iranian forces at a distance during the extraction process.
The report added that no direct confrontation occurred between U.S. commandos and Iranian forces during the mission. The developments come amid heightened tensions between the United States and Iran, raising concerns over further escalation in the region.
