Kathmandu, Nepal – Web Desk: A Nepali mountaineer who was presumed dead after going missing on Mount Everest has been found alive six days later, in what rescuers are describing as a remarkable survival story.
According to international media reports, the family of Dawa Sherpa had begun preparing for his funeral after losing hope of finding him alive. However, the climber was rescued after surviving nearly a week on the world’s highest mountain.
Dawa Sherpa said he endured the harsh conditions by chewing snow for water and eating chocolates he had in his pockets while stranded on the snow-covered peak. He explained that he was not lost but was forced to remain behind after his oxygen cylinder ran empty during the expedition.
Medical officials said Sherpa is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Kathmandu for dehydration, frostbite, and a fractured bone. His condition is reported to be stable.
Mount Everest continues to attract hundreds of climbers from around the world every year. However, the extreme altitude, severe weather, and challenging terrain make it one of the most dangerous mountaineering destinations, with fatalities reported during many climbing seasons.
The dramatic rescue has drawn widespread attention and highlighted both the risks and resilience associated with high-altitude climbing.
