US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed on X that a new wave of strikes against Iranian military targets began at 5:30 PM ET on Wednesday, under the direction of President Donald Trump . The strikes are aimed at degrading Iran’s ability to target commercial shipping and civilian maritime traffic through regional waterways .
Further Expansion Under Consideration
The Wall Street Journal reported that the White House is considering further expanding military operations, with additional troops, medical personnel, and advanced weaponry deployed to the region. US Special Operations Forces have arrived in the region, and fighter jets have been stationed at various locations . Bomber aircraft at US and UK bases have also been placed on high alert .
$1.15 Trillion Defense Bill
The US House of Representatives has passed the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2027, allocating a record $1.15 trillion for defense spending . The bill passed by a vote of 216-212, despite Democratic concerns over costs and provisions expanding Pentagon ties with Israel amid the Iran conflict .
