GCC Urges UN to Take Action Against Iran Amid Gulf Security Threats

United Nations, New York – Web Desk: The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has called on the international community to take immediate and effective action against Iran and Yemen’s Houthi group, accusing them of threatening Gulf security and global maritime trade .

GCC’s Statement at UNSC

Addressing a high-level UN Security Council meeting, GCC Secretary-General Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi said Iran’s ballistic missile and drone attacks on Gulf states, along with Houthi threats to close the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, pose a serious threat to international peace and global trade .

Albudaiwi stated that Iran’s actions constitute “a flagrant violation of international law and the UN Charter,” urging the international community to adopt a firm stance to ensure respect for international law, freedom of navigation, and the protection of energy infrastructure .

Iran’s Disruption of Maritime Routes

The GCC chief also accused Iran of disrupting maritime navigation through attacks on commercial vessels, laying naval mines, imposing specific routes, and repeatedly threatening to close the Strait of Hormuz.

He stressed that the international community must take collective and effective measures to prevent further escalation and address risks to global trade, energy shipments, and international peace .
