Four police personnel killed, more than 20 injured in Rawalakot firing, Say AJK Police

Rawalakot, Pakistan – Web Desk: Four law enforcement personnel were killed and more than 20 police and security officials were injured after armed attackers opened fire in Rawalakot, authorities in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) said.

According to a spokesperson for the Inspector General of Police in AJK, the shooting targeted security personnel during an operation in the area. Officials said the attack resulted in the deaths of four personnel, while more than 20 others sustained injuries.

The Inspector General of Police strongly condemned the incident, stating that the attackers appeared to have carried out the assault in a planned and coordinated manner.

The development comes days after the Azad Kashmir government declared the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee a banned organization. Authorities had previously announced security measures ahead of a strike call scheduled for June 9.

An investigation into the attack is underway, while security has been tightened across the region following the deadly incident.
