Quetta, Pakistan – Web Desk: A female doctor at the Provincial Civil Hospital in Quetta was critically injured on Saturday after an alleged hospital employee attacked her with acid, police and hospital officials said.
According to senior hospital officials, the doctor sustained severe burn injuries to her face, chest, legs and other parts of her body. She was first treated at Civil Hospital before being shifted to a private medical facility. Authorities said arrangements were also being made to transfer her to Karachi via air ambulance for advanced treatment.
Hospital sources said nearly 70 percent of her body was affected in the attack.
Police said the suspect fled the scene immediately after throwing acid on the doctor. He was later traced and killed in an encounter when law enforcement intercepted him while he was allegedly trying to escape by bus.
Officials stated the suspect opened fire on police when asked to surrender, prompting retaliatory fire in which he was killed.
Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti and Health Minister Bakht Kakar strongly condemned the incident and directed authorities to ensure the best possible medical treatment for the injured doctor.
