The Provincial Disaster Management Authority Sindh has issued a province-wide alert as the Pakistan Meteorological Department forecasts widespread rain and thunderstorms across the province till July 25.
Karachi, Pakistan – Web Desk: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Sindh on Thursday issued a province-wide alert as rain and thunderstorms are expected to hit various parts of the province between July 23 and 25, amid strong monsoon currents moving in from the Arabian Sea.
PDMA Sindh Director General Syed Salman Shah said the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast widespread rain accompanied by thunderstorms across multiple districts during this period. In view of the forecast, the authority has directed all district administrations, relevant departments, and emergency response agencies to remain on high alert and adopt precautionary measures.
According to Shah, heavy rainfall is expected at isolated locations in Hyderabad, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Sanghar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Matiari, Jamshoro, and Shaheed Benazirabad. Light to moderate rain has been forecast for Ghotki, Kashmore, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Sukkur, and Khairpur, while Larkana, Naushahro Feroze, and Thatta are expected to receive rain accompanied by thunderstorms over the next two days.
Karachi’s weather is likely to remain warm and humid with partly cloudy skies, with isolated drizzle also possible, PDMA Sindh said.
Shah cautioned that strong winds and lightning could damage vulnerable structures, electricity poles, solar panels, and billboards across the province. He said all relevant authorities have been instructed to adopt precautionary measures and remain fully prepared to respond to any emergency that may arise.
The disaster management authority has activated its monsoon preparedness plan, with dewatering pumps and other essential machinery kept ready for deployment. Low-lying areas vulnerable to urban and flash flooding have also been identified in advance to allow for a swift response, according to the PDMA chief.
“If the situation arises in any area, dewatering machinery will be immediately shifted to the affected locations,” Shah said.
The PDMA DG also urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions, stay away from electricity poles and unsafe structures, and follow official safety advisories issued by the authority.
With monsoon activity expected to persist over the coming days, citizens across Sindh, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone districts, are advised to monitor official updates and take necessary precautions as authorities continue preparedness efforts.
