UN Rights Chief Urges Israel to End Lebanon Occupation, Warns of War Crimes

Date:

Beirut, Lebanon – Web Desk: The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, has called on Israel to end its occupation of large parts of southern Lebanon and to cease the systematic destruction of homes and civilian infrastructure. Speaking after a visit to Lebanon, Türk urged Israeli authorities to halt actions that may amount to war crimes.

Türk concluded a mission to Lebanon where he met with government officials, civil society representatives, and displaced families affected by the ongoing conflict. He expressed serious concern over the widespread destruction of towns and villages, as well as the killing of dozens of medical workers and journalists, which has drawn sharp condemnation from international human rights groups.

The call comes amid heightened regional tensions and ongoing conflict along the Blue Line.
