KARACHI, PAKISTAN — WEB DESK: A Karachi court has fixed November 20 for framing charges against television anchorperson Iqrar-ul-Hassan in a case involving allegations of disseminating anti-state content on social media.

The Judicial Magistrate East court scheduled the date during a hearing on Friday, November 6. Iqrar appeared before the court alongside his lawyers.

During the proceedings, the court provided him with copies of the case documents and directed him to ensure his presence at the next hearing.

The court subsequently fixed November 20 for the next stage of proceedings, when charges are expected to be framed.

NCCIA case against Iqrar-ul-Hassan

The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) registered the case against Iqrar over alleged dissemination of anti-state material through social media.

The agency’s allegations concern content published through his social media accounts. The allegations remain subject to judicial proceedings and have not been established as facts through a conviction.

The Judicial Magistrate East court had earlier declared the NCCIA’s interim charge sheet final, according to the latest report.

Iqrar-ul-Hassan currently out on bail

Iqrar is currently on bail in the case.

A Karachi judicial magistrate granted him post-arrest bail on October 31 against surety bonds of Rs200,000. His lawyer confirmed the development to Dawn, while other media outlets also reported the court’s decision.

The bail order did not conclude the criminal proceedings. The case will continue before the court, with the next hearing scheduled for November 20.
