Ankara, Turkey – Web Desk: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan issued a stark warning to NATO member states on Wednesday, urging them to maintain unwavering solidarity and warning that any fracture within the alliance would place global security at grave risk.
Addressing the NATO summit in Ankara, Erdogan emphasized that cohesion and cooperation among allies are critical in the current geopolitical climate. He stressed that member nations on both sides of the Atlantic must avoid any actions or rhetoric that could damage transatlantic relations.
“Unity is directly linked to security,” Erdogan stated. “We must steer clear of any differences that could create division or weakness within NATO.” His remarks come at a time of heightened tensions and strategic realignments, underscoring Turkey’s longstanding commitment to the alliance’s foundational principles.
The Turkish president expressed hope that the Ankara summit would serve as a pivotal platform for fostering global peace, stability, and deeper cooperation among member states. On the second day of the assembly, Erdogan and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte formally welcomed heads of state and delegations. The proceedings included traditional handshakes and group photographs with world leaders.
Discussions at the summit are focused on a broad range of pressing issues, including emerging threats to the alliance, international security dynamics, the ongoing situation in Ukraine, and future defense strategies. According to the Turkish presidency, Erdogan is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with several world leaders on the sidelines of the summit, with agenda items expected to cover regional security, defense cooperation, and mutual bilateral relations.
Turkey has been a cornerstone member of NATO since 1952 and has remained an integral part of the alliance for over seven decades.
