DOHA, Qatar / BEIJING, China – Web Desk: Qatar and China have expressed deep concern over the escalating tensions between Iran and the United States, urging all parties to exercise restraint, prevent further military escalation, and continue diplomatic negotiations. The appeals come as the Gulf region faces heightened volatility following Iran’s missile and drone strikes on US military facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait, and subsequent US airstrikes on over 80 targets inside Iran.
Qatar’s Call for Diplomacy: Qatar condemned Iran’s recent attacks on Kuwait and Bahrain, stating that such actions are detrimental to regional peace and stability. In a statement, the Qatari Foreign Ministry emphasized the need to protect the region from the consequences of “unjustified attacks” and called on all parties to prioritize de-escalation. Qatar reiterated its support for the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Iran and the US, urging both sides to build on the progress already achieved under the Islamabad peace framework. Qatar has served as a key mediator in diplomatic contacts between Tehran and Washington, making its latest statement particularly significant.
China’s Position: China also voiced concern over the escalating situation following US airstrikes in Iran. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning told reporters in Beijing that “resurrecting war in the Middle East is not in anyone’s interest,” emphasizing that military actions do not resolve fundamental issues. China called on both Iran and the US to exercise restraint, avoid further escalation, and resolve differences through dialogue.
