US reimposes sanctions on Iranian oil sales, shortening the exemption period from August 21 to July 17 after Strait of Hormuz attacks.

Date:

WASHINGTON D.C., United States – Web Desk: The United States has reimposed sanctions on Iranian oil sales, blaming Tehran for recent attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. The US Treasury Department has shortened the previously granted exemption period, which was set to last until August 21, now limiting it to July 17.

The move comes after Iran condemned the US decision as a violation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two countries. Iran’s Foreign Ministry stated that the US action constitutes a breach of the agreement and warned that Tehran would respond appropriately to protect its national interests and security. The Foreign Ministry emphasized that the US bears full responsibility for the resulting situation and that Iran reserves the right to take necessary measures in response to these new sanctions.

It may be recalled that last month, the US had granted Iran permission to deliver crude oil and petrochemical products, but following the attacks on commercial vessels in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, Washington has decided to reinstate restrictions.
