Ankara, Türkiye – Web Desk: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has said that Israel is attempting to portray Türkiye as a new regional adversary amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
Speaking during a meeting with editors at the headquarters of Anadolu Agency, Fidan said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is seeking to label Türkiye as an “enemy” following developments in the region.
He added that Israel, in his view, consistently requires an external adversary to justify its policies, first Iran and now increasingly Türkiye.
Fidan also stressed the need for regional countries to establish a security alliance to restore trust and stability in the Middle East, warning that current tensions could expand into a broader regional conflict.
He further commented on the importance of maintaining open maritime routes, including the Strait of Hormuz, saying freedom of navigation should not be restricted and no country should impose barriers on passage.
The Turkish foreign minister also criticized Israel’s regional policies, particularly in relation to Lebanon, describing them as expansionist and warning that the situation could escalate into a wider conflict.
The remarks come shortly after reports that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced legal action against several Israeli officials over alleged incidents involving a humanitarian flotilla.
Analysts say the latest exchange of statements highlights deepening geopolitical divisions in the Middle East, with growing risks of wider regional confrontation.
