Shan Masood may resign as Pakistan Test captain after poor results

Date:

Karachi, Pakistan – Web Desk: Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood is under mounting pressure following a heavy defeat against Bangladesh, with reports suggesting he may step down from leadership amid growing criticism over the team’s recent performances.

According to sources, Shan Masood is expected to offer his resignation during a meeting with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board Mohsin Naqvi after returning home. The final decision will rest with the board leadership.

Shan Masood, appointed captain in 2023, has overseen a challenging run of results, with Pakistan losing 12 out of 16 Test matches under his leadership, increasing scrutiny over team strategy and performance.

Following the defeat in Sylhet, Masood expressed disappointment, apologising to fans and acknowledging that the team had failed to meet expectations. He stressed the need for long-term improvement in Pakistan’s Test cricket structure rather than focusing on individual blame.

He further stated that Pakistan must play more Test cricket to improve consistency and capitalize on match situations, admitting that the team had missed key opportunities despite moments of potential comeback.

Masood added that Bangladesh played better cricket and deserved the win, while reiterating his commitment to improving Pakistan’s Test performance in any role.
