Taipei, Taiwan – Web Desk: A secret marriage involving a 102-year-old Taiwanese millionaire and his 68-year-old caregiver has triggered a dramatic family dispute and police intervention at a hospital in Taipei, local media reported.
The incident occurred in Taipei’s Zhongshan District when the elderly businessman was leaving a hospital with his newly revealed wife. His sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren arrived unexpectedly and confronted the couple, leading to a heated argument at the hospital entrance.
The woman, who had been hired by the family as a caregiver, had secretly married the tycoon, according to reports. The businessman’s sons accused her of exploiting their father’s mental condition and marrying him for financial gain.
Witnesses said the family members forcibly took the elderly man’s wheelchair and attempted to take him home, while the woman shouted for help and called police. Physical altercations were reported as bystanders attempted to intervene.
The sons told police that after the marriage, their father transferred seven land plots and an insurance policy worth about £1.9 million to the woman and her children. They claimed total transferred assets amounted to roughly £4.7 million, while the tycoon’s overall wealth is estimated between £16 million and £18.7 million.
Marriage registration authorities said the elderly man answered required questions correctly and met legal requirements at the time of registration. However, following the family’s legal challenge, a court will now determine the validity of the marriage and the legality of the asset transfers.
The case has sparked debate in Taiwan over elder care, inheritance laws, and potential financial exploitation of vulnerable seniors.
