Chennai, India – Web Desk: India batter Rinku Singh has left the national team camp during the T20 World Cup Super 8 stage due to a family emergency, Indian media reported.
Rinku’s father, Khan Chand Singh, is reportedly in critical condition and has been admitted to a hospital in Greater Noida, where he is currently on a ventilator. The batter travelled from Chennai early Tuesday to be with his family.
Rinku had arrived in Chennai on February 23, a day after India’s Super 8 match, but is now unlikely to be available for India’s fixture against Zimbabwe on February 26. He was also absent from team training on Tuesday evening.
His departure comes at a crucial time for India, who suffered a defeat to South Africa in their opening Super 8 match. In Rinku’s absence, India may consider bringing Axar Patel into the playing XI, according to reports.
Zimbabwe, led by Sikandar Raza, are also seeking to improve their record after losing their first Super 8 match against the West Indies.
