A senior Iranian security official says continued US maritime pressure could disrupt key global shipping routes, with potential consequences for energy markets and the global economy.
TEHRAN, Iran — WEB DESK: Iran has warned that the continuation of what it describes as a US maritime blockade could lead to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and other strategic sea lanes, escalating concerns over maritime security in the Gulf region.
According to Iranian state media, Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council of Iran, said continued US actions at sea could significantly disrupt international shipping routes.
Iran Issues Fresh Warning
In remarks carried by Iran’s state broadcaster, Zolghadr said continued US “provocations” would not only further restrict navigation through the Strait of Hormuz but could also affect other strategic maritime corridors.
He warned that such developments could have serious consequences for the global economy, international energy markets and, ultimately, the United States.
Maritime Tensions Continue
Iran’s latest warning comes amid heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington following recent military and maritime confrontations in the region.
Iran has repeatedly criticized US naval operations in the Gulf, while Washington says its maritime deployments are intended to safeguard international shipping and regional security.
