ISLAMABAD — Pakistan’s Senate session was adjourned indefinitely on Friday after road blockages and the absence of key lawmakers disrupted proceedings.
Presided over by Senator Manzoor Ahmed Kakar, the session was set to address urgent issues including the ongoing flood crisis. However, the meeting began with the suspension of the Question & Answer segment, as members opted to focus on flood-related discussions.
Notably, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) members were absent for the second consecutive day. Senator Saifullah Abro raised concerns over quorum, prompting a headcount that confirmed insufficient attendance.
Despite efforts to summon more members — including a five-minute bell — quorum was not met. Minister for Law Azam Nazeer Tarar cited road closures caused by a religious group’s protest in Islamabad as the reason behind the low turnout.
Although PPP Senator Saleem Mandviwala eventually arrived, the session was officially adjourned with no new date announced.
