ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – Web Desk: Pakistan’s federal government is preparing to roll out a digital fuel subsidy program aimed at supporting low-income consumers amid an ongoing energy crisis, officials said.
Under the initiative, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has developed a mobile application to facilitate the distribution of petrol subsidies. The app is currently in the testing phase.
According to sources, the subsidy will initially target two- and three-wheeler vehicles, including motorcycles and rickshaws, while the impact of rising global fuel prices will continue to be passed on to other consumers. A proposal under consideration suggests allocating up to 20 litres of subsidised petrol per month for motorcycles.
Authorities are also evaluating whether vehicles up to 800cc should be included in the subsidy program, although no final decision has been made.
To implement the system, approximately 12,000 fuel stations across the country will be equipped with dedicated subsidy nozzles. Each station is expected to receive two mobile devices through which fuel will be dispensed using the application, ensuring targeted and transparent delivery of subsidies.
Officials say the digital approach aims to reduce misuse, improve efficiency, and provide relief to vulnerable segments of society as fuel prices remain volatile due to global energy market pressures.
