Karachi, Pakistan – Web Desk: Pakistan marked the martyrdom day of Ali ibn Abi Talib with deep religious devotion on Wednesday, as processions were taken out in cities across the country under heightened security arrangements.
Authorities implemented strict security measures to ensure peaceful observance of the occasion. In Karachi, several roads and streets around the Saddar area were sealed with containers as part of the security plan.
Before the main procession, a mourning congregation was scheduled to be held at Nishtar Park. The central procession was expected to conclude at Hussainia Iranian Imambargah after passing through designated routes.
In Rawalpindi, the central Youm-e-Ali procession concluded at Imambargah Colonel Maqbool, while in Peshawar the procession ended at Imambargah Syed Alam Shah after moving through Kochi Bazaar.
Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hasan Lanjar reviewed the procession routes and security arrangements in Karachi, directing authorities to ensure extraordinary security measures.
Speaking to reporters, Lanjar said an inquiry was ongoing into the February 28 incident and it would be premature to assign responsibility at this stage. He described recent police officer transfers as administrative matters.
The February 28 incident involved a shooting near the U.S. Consulate Karachi that left 11 people dead, according to officials.
Authorities have urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement to maintain peace during the religious observances.
