NYC Mayor Urges US to Enforce ICC Warrant Against Netanyahu

Date:

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has urged the US federal government to enforce the International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying the city does not have the legal authority to carry out such an arrest.

New York, United States – Web Desk: In a video statement posted on social media, Mamdani said his administration had reviewed all available legal options regarding the ICC warrant and concluded that New York City lacks the independent legal authority to arrest a foreign head of government under the current legal framework.

He said the authority to act rests with the US federal government, urging Washington to cooperate with the ICC and give due consideration to the arrest warrant.

Mamdani said he supports the ICC’s decision to issue the warrant for Netanyahu and called for its enforcement through the appropriate federal legal process.

The New York mayor also accused the Israeli prime minister of committing war crimes and acts of genocide against Palestinians, allegations that Israel has repeatedly denied. Mamdani further said Netanyahu would not be welcome in New York under his administration.
