NHA Revenue Surges to Rs109 Billion, PM Praises Transparent Toll Auctions

Date:

(Web Desk) – A performance review meeting chaired by Shehbaz Sharif assessed the progress of the National Highway Authority. Officials briefed the meeting on revenue growth, improved safety measures, and enhanced service areas across motorways and highways.

The briefing revealed that NHA revenue increased from Rs66.8 billion in fiscal year 2025 to Rs109 billion, reflecting a 63 percent rise driven by transparent toll collection and operational reforms. The prime minister praised the open auction of toll plazas as a positive step and directed authorities to maintain high-quality standards during motorway repair works.

Officials highlighted significant improvements in electronic toll collection, with M-Tag usage rising from 20 percent to 81 percent. Compliance with axle-load restrictions reached 90 percent on highways and 95 percent on motorways, reducing road damage and improving safety. New service areas are being developed, and an air ambulance service will be introduced on motorways to enhance emergency response capabilities.

Infrastructure upgrades funded by NHA budgets have also completed projects such as the Lyari Expressway, Thokar Niaz Baig (N-5) improvements, and the Islamabad-Murree Expressway upgrade. The meeting was attended by federal ministers, including Ahsan Iqbal and Abdul Aleem Khan, who reviewed ongoing initiatives and future plans.
