Mexico City, Mexico – Web Desk: Violence erupted across Mexico following the death of notorious drug cartel leader Nemésio “El Mencho” Oseguera Cervantes during a military operation in Jalisco. The operation left 25 National Guard members dead amid widespread riots.
Officials reported that El Mencho was critically wounded in an exchange of gunfire and died while being transported to Mexico City. The drug lord had a $15 million bounty on his head. Following his death, armed groups set vehicles on fire, blocked highways, and created chaos in cities such as Puerto Vallarta, where thick plumes of smoke covered the city.
Foreign media reports confirmed that 25 National Guard personnel were killed during violent clashes. Authorities also arrested 70 individuals across seven states in connection with the unrest.
The White House confirmed that the United States provided intelligence support for the operation. President Donald Trump urged Mexican authorities to intensify actions against drug trafficking groups.
