Beirut, Lebanon – Web Desk: Lebanon’s Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has said the government will not sign any agreement that does not include the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory.
According to media reports, Salam rejected any arrangement that would allow Israel to maintain a buffer zone in southern Lebanon, stating that such conditions are unacceptable as displaced residents remain unable to return to their homes.
“We cannot accept a buffer zone where citizens are prevented from returning to their towns and villages,” Salam said, emphasizing that Lebanon’s position remains firm on full territorial sovereignty.
He also called on the administration of Donald Trump to exert pressure on Israel to scale back its demands and end what he described as an occupation.
Addressing internal security, Salam said the Lebanese government has taken steps to consolidate state authority, including efforts to restrict armed activity by Hezbollah and ensure that weapons remain under state control.
“A state cannot have two armies,” he said, highlighting the government’s commitment to strengthening national institutions and security.
