Iran Makes Clear Strait of Hormuz Will Not Be Part of Any Negotiations

Date:

Tehran, Iran – Web Desk: Iran has firmly stated that the Strait of Hormuz will not be included in any negotiations under any circumstances, reaffirming its long-standing position on sovereignty over the strategic waterway.

According to Iranian officials, if U.S. sanctions or blockades are lifted, the movement of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz would operate under rules and regulations set by Tehran.

Abraham Azizi, head of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security Committee, said Iran’s sovereignty over the Strait is a fundamental component of any potential peace agreement. He added that Iran’s geographical position is a key element of its strategic strength and that the Strait forms an integral part of its territorial rights.

Azizi further stressed that Iran would never bring the issue of the Strait of Hormuz to the negotiating table, unlike past discussions on the nuclear agreement.

He also stated that only non-military and non-hostile vessels would be allowed passage, while maritime traffic would be regulated according to Iranian guidelines without the need for approval from any foreign power.

Iranian officials suggested the issue could be part of early confidence-building measures aimed at reducing regional tensions and improving stability.

Meanwhile, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said Iran and the United States have reached an initial framework for discussions, but it is still too early to say whether a final agreement is near.

Baghaei added that if a memorandum of understanding is finalized, further negotiations on the nuclear file and other key issues could continue over the next 60 days.
