According to reports published in Indian media, including The Times of India, authorities in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand issued warnings ahead of Eid al-Adha regarding restrictions on animal sacrifice, including cattle, buffalo, and camel slaughter in certain areas.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reportedly cautioned against unauthorized religious activities during Eid, while Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami emphasized restrictions on public religious gatherings on roads.
Separately, a court ruling cited in media reports stated that cow sacrifice is not part of Islamic religious practice, further fueling debate over religious interpretation and minority rights.
In West Bengal, reports also indicated political and business reactions following restrictions on the sale or sacrifice of animals ahead of Eid, with some local traders expressing concern.
