IPL Controversy: Kohli Confronts Umpire Over Catch Call

Date:

Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: A fresh controversy has emerged in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after a disputed catch decision sparked strong reactions from players and team officials during a high-profile clash.

The incident occurred during a crucial match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Titans, when Rajat Patidar was given out under unclear circumstances, triggering widespread debate.

Patidar attempted a pull shot on a short delivery, but the ball appeared to take the top edge of the bat and traveled towards deep square leg, where Jason Holder completed the catch. Kagiso Rabada also approached the area from fine leg during the play.

Due to uncertainty over whether the ball had touched the ground, on-field umpires referred the decision to the third umpire. Replays failed to provide conclusive evidence, yet the batter was declared out, prompting immediate controversy.

Virat Kohli reacted strongly to the decision, engaging in a heated exchange with the fourth umpire near the boundary line. Head coach Andy Flower later joined the discussion, with both expressing dissatisfaction over the ruling.

The wicket fell at a critical stage of the match, adding pressure on the batting side and further intensifying reactions from players and fans.

The incident has once again raised questions over decision-making standards and the use of technology in high-stakes T20 cricket.
