JUI-F leader says laws against Quran and Sunnah will not be accepted in Pakistan
Islamabad, Pakistan | Web Desk: Senior Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) leader Hafiz Hamdullah has triggered widespread controversy after stating that he could marry a 16-year-old girl if angered, rejecting laws he claims contradict Quran and Sunnah.
Speaking to reporters outside Parliament House Islamabad, Hafiz Hamdullah advised JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to organize collective marriages across all four provinces, including for youths under the age of 18 whom he described as mature.
He further asserted that any law conflicting with Islamic teachings would be openly defied, emphasizing that Pakistan is an Islamic Republic, not a secular state.
Clarifying his remarks, Hamdullah said he is not planning a second marriage, but warned that if provoked, he would personally violate the law to make his point.
The statement has ignited strong reactions on social media and raised renewed debate over child marriage laws, religious interpretations, and constitutional authority in Pakistan.
