Iran Says It Remains Far from Reaching a Deal with the United States

Date:

Tehran rejects Washington’s demands as excessive, while Qatari mediation continues amid disagreements over the Strait of Hormuz, sanctions and nuclear negotiations.

TEHRAN, IRAN — WEB DESK — November 3, 2026: Iran has said it remains far from reaching an agreement with the United States to end the ongoing conflict, despite intensified diplomatic efforts and mediation involving Qatar.

A senior Iranian official said Tehran would not accept what it described as excessive American demands, adding that significant differences between the two countries remained unresolved.

The official also stressed that Iran’s conditions must be met before the Strait of Hormuz can be reopened. Discussions over the country’s nuclear programme could take place afterward, indicating that the two sides remain divided over the sequence and terms of a potential agreement.

Qatar Continues Diplomatic Mediation

Diplomatic efforts have intensified in recent days, with Qatar playing a key role in facilitating indirect communication between Washington and Tehran.

Iranian officials have confirmed that messages continue to be exchanged through intermediaries. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has also maintained that Tehran has presented its conditions and proposals, while the outcome depends on Washington’s response.

Iran has proposed a revised version of its seven-step plan, which could reportedly be implemented within two days. The proposal includes ending the US naval blockade of Iranian ports, addressing sanctions and restoring maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

Tehran Warns Against Further Military Action

The diplomatic uncertainty comes amid renewed military tensions following reported US strikes on Iran’s Qeshm Island near the Strait of Hormuz.

The Iranian official warned that Tehran was prepared to respond forcefully to further American attacks, including actions beyond the immediate region.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has expressed uncertainty about the possibility of renewed military operations while maintaining that an agreement with Iran could still be reached.

The conflicting positions have increased uncertainty over the future of the conflict, particularly its impact on regional security, international shipping and global energy markets.

No final agreement has been announced, and major disagreements over sanctions, maritime security and Iran’s nuclear programme continue to complicate diplomatic efforts.
