British newlyweds killed in crash
Authorities said the helicopter was carrying a Greek pilot and a British couple who had recently married.
The couple had reportedly travelled to Sifnos for their honeymoon.
Images circulating on social media appeared to show the crash site on a mountainous section of the island, with flames and smoke rising from the wreckage.
Local media reported that the helicopter exploded shortly after takeoff and was engulfed in flames.
Emergency teams respond
Emergency services were alerted following the crash and quickly deployed to the site.
Two firefighters and a fire engine were reportedly among the first responders to reach the crash location.
An additional rescue team was subsequently sent from the nearby Greek island of Syros to assist with the emergency response.
Authorities have not yet established the cause of the crash.
An investigation is expected to determine what happened during the helicopter’s takeoff and the circumstances that led to the fatal accident.
Officials have confirmed that the pilot was Greek, while the two passengers were British nationals.
