WEB DESK: French footballer Yael Trepy, who plays for Italian Serie A club Cagliari, has been admitted to intensive care following a near-drowning incident in Sardinia.
Cagliari confirmed that the 20-year-old forward is receiving treatment at a hospital in Sassari, with medical staff closely monitoring his condition. The club also said it remains in contact with Trepy’s family and asked for privacy regarding the situation.
Trepy rescued from swimming pool
According to Italian media reports, Trepy was involved in an incident at a swimming pool in Porto Cervo, in northern Sardinia, on Sunday.
Reports said he swallowed a significant amount of water and was rescued before being transported to hospital by helicopter.
Italian media have further reported that doctors placed the player in a medically induced coma, although Cagliari has not publicly disclosed detailed information about his medical condition.
The circumstances surrounding the incident have not been officially detailed by the club.
Trepy’s football career
Trepy joined Cagliari’s academy in 2022 after beginning his development in France. He subsequently progressed into the club’s senior setup.
The young forward made his Serie A breakthrough during the 2025-26 season and scored once in eight league appearances, according to the Express report.
Cagliari has urged the public and media to respect the privacy of Trepy and his family while he remains under medical care.
