Netanyahu Says Trump Partnership Could Help Eliminate Iran Threat

Date:

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he sees an opportunity to work with US President Donald Trump against what he calls Iran’s existential threat, as Israel faces political uncertainty after a closely contested election.

WEB DESK: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said Israel has a “unique opportunity” to work with US President Donald Trump to eliminate what he describes as an existential threat from Iran, renewing concerns about the possibility of further military action against Tehran.

Speaking on Wednesday, October 28, Netanyahu said cooperation with Trump could provide an opportunity to address Israel’s security concerns. His remarks came amid heightened tensions over Iran and uncertainty following Israel’s closely contested national election.

Netanyahu signals closer coordination with Trump

Netanyahu’s latest comments followed statements in which he highlighted Trump’s support and suggested that the two countries could resume military action against Iran.

Ahead of Israel’s election, Trump publicly endorsed Netanyahu and said the two leaders needed to “finish the job” they had started against Iran. Netanyahu subsequently said Trump was prepared to take action to remove what he called the Iranian threat.

Netanyahu has also said he instructed Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency and military to pursue the objective of bringing down Iran’s government. These remarks reflect his stated position; they do not establish that a new military operation has been approved or scheduled.

Is another US-Israeli attack on Iran imminent?

Reports in recent days have described preparations and discussions concerning the possibility of renewed US-Israeli strikes against Iran. However, the public statements and reporting do not establish a final decision to launch another attack.

The White House previously said the United States would not attack Iran before the November 3, 2026, US midterm elections. Washington has also indicated that its pressure on Tehran, including a blockade, would continue.

The distinction is important: Netanyahu’s warnings and reports about military planning signal heightened tensions, but they are not confirmation that a new offensive is underway.

Israel’s election leaves political questions unresolved

Netanyahu’s comments came after Israel’s October 27 election, which early results indicated had produced no clear parliamentary majority.

Reuters reported on October 28 that, with 48.4% of votes counted, Netanyahu’s bloc was projected to win 55 seats, while the rival bloc led by Gadi Eisenkot was projected to secure 50. Arab parties were projected to win 15 seats. The figures left the main blocs short of the 61 seats needed for a majority in Israel’s 120-member parliament.

The final outcome and subsequent coalition negotiations will shape the country’s political direction. Netanyahu’s emphasis on security and Iran has become part of the wider debate over his leadership and Israel’s future policy.

Regional and diplomatic implications

Any renewed US-Israeli military action against Iran could increase risks across the Middle East, particularly if Tehran retaliates or the confrontation expands beyond the countries directly involved.

Iran has warned of broader retaliation in the event of renewed attacks, while diplomatic efforts have continued amid concerns about regional security and disruptions to energy supplies. The scale and consequences of any escalation remain uncertain.
