Paris, France – Web Desk: French authorities have banned the annual Muslim gathering in Paris, citing serious security concerns, officials said.
The decision affects the 40th annual assembly organized by Muslim groups at the Le Bourget Exhibition Centre, scheduled from April 3 to April 6. Paris Police Chief Peters Faur confirmed on social media that the ban was issued at the request of Interior Minister Laurent Nunez.
Authorities stated the decision was made in a context of heightened national and international tensions, increased terrorism threats, and civil unrest. Police presence on Paris streets is expected to remain heavy in the coming days.
This move comes amid escalating global tensions following U.S. and Israeli military actions against Iran, as well as recent security threats in France, including a failed bomb attempt at Bank of America offices in Paris.
Mekhlouf Mamich, head of the organizing body, confirmed the ban and said the organization intends to appeal the decision through legal channels.
The ban has sparked debate about security, religious freedoms, and public assembly rights in France, highlighting ongoing challenges in balancing safety with civil liberties.
