Tehran, Iran – Web Desk: Iran on Tuesday marked Persian Gulf Day, commemorating the expulsion of Portuguese forces from the Strait of Hormuz 400 years ago, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said.
In a statement, Araghchi noted the historical significance of the day, emphasizing Iran’s longstanding ties to the Persian Gulf. He added that former US President Donald Trump has previously used the term “Persian Gulf,” warning that referring to it by any other name would be a “serious mistake.”
Meanwhile, Trump shared a map on his social media platform Truth Social, in which the Strait of Hormuz was labeled as the “Trump Strait,” drawing attention and sparking debate over geopolitical naming conventions.
The development comes amid heightened regional sensitivities, with the Strait of Hormuz remaining a critical global energy route and a focal point in ongoing Middle East tensions.
