Washington, United States – Web Desk: The White House has confirmed that President Donald Trump is dispatching a high-level delegation to Islamabad to engage in negotiations with Iran, signaling a renewed diplomatic push to ease regional tensions.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the US negotiating team will include Vice President JD Vance, along with senior envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. The first round of talks is scheduled for Saturday morning in Islamabad.
Leavitt stated that Iran had initially proposed a ceasefire and later agreed to revised terms after earlier proposals were rejected as unacceptable. She added that President Trump’s “red lines” remain unchanged and expressed expectations that the Strait of Hormuz will remain open.
The spokesperson also confirmed that Trump held a phone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier this week, noting that the ceasefire arrangement does not extend to Lebanon, where discussions with Israeli leadership and other stakeholders are ongoing.
Separately, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who thanked Pakistan for its efforts in facilitating a two-week ceasefire and conveyed good wishes for the Pakistani people.
Diplomatic sources indicate that comprehensive negotiations between the United States and Iran are expected in Islamabad, with Iran likely to be represented by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
The talks are seen as a critical step toward de-escalation and could shape the future of US-Iran relations amid ongoing regional tensions.
