Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: The government of Pakistan has announced free public transport services in the capital Islamabad for a period of 30 days, in a move aimed at providing relief to citizens amid rising fuel prices.
The decision was made on the directive of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi confirmed the development in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating that the initiative will take effect from tomorrow.
Under the plan, residents of Islamabad will be able to use all government-run public transport services free of charge for one month. The Ministry of Interior will bear the cost of the relief measure, estimated at PKR 350 million.
Officials say the initiative is part of broader efforts to reduce the financial burden on commuters following a sharp increase in petroleum prices across Pakistan. The move is also expected to encourage the use of public transport and ease urban mobility challenges in the federal capital.
