Karachi, Pakistan – Staff Reporter: Two women were rescued after a vehicle partially sank into a collapsed road on Tariq Road in Karachi on Friday afternoon, authorities said.
The incident occurred following heavy rainfall and strong winds that battered Karachi overnight and into Thursday. The car sank into a sudden depression in the road near the Ferozabad police station area, trapping the passengers.
According to the Karachi Traffic Police, the vehicle quickly began to fill with water, prompting immediate action from local residents and police personnel. Both women were safely rescued from the car, and the vehicle was later lifted from the gaping hole with the assistance of a private crane.
Police and municipal officials arrived at the scene to secure the area. A temporary barrier was set up around the collapsed section to prevent further accidents.
Traffic Section Officer (SO) Tariq Road, Nawaz Sial, stated that a major sewer line runs 20 to 25 feet below the collapse site, which also contains a manhole for security access. Officials have warned motorists to avoid the area until permanent repairs are carried out.
