Washington / Seoul – Web Desk : The United States has redeployed its advanced THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) missile defense system from South Korea to the Middle East, reports indicate, aiming to protect Israel and US military installations in the region from potential Iranian missile threats.
Installed in South Korea in 2017 to counter North Korea’s growing missile capabilities, THAAD has now been partially relocated as tensions with Iran escalate amid ongoing conflicts and missile exchanges in the region.
According to the US Department of Defense, the move is intended to bolster Israel’s missile defense and enhance the security of American forces stationed in the Middle East. Analysts say the transfer reflects Washington’s strategic recalibration in response to Iran’s increasing missile capabilities and the ongoing conflict in the Gulf.
The redeployment has raised concerns in South Korea, with some political circles warning that removing portions of the THAAD system could affect the regional defense balance against North Korean threats.
