Karachi, Pakistan – Web Desk: The Sindh government has decided to introduce additional new buses in Karachi as part of its efforts to improve public transport and reduce traffic congestion and daily commuting challenges, Senior Provincial Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting of the Transport and Mass Transit Department chaired by Memon, where officials reviewed ongoing projects, including the Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor, and discussed measures to enhance public transport services across the city.
Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, Managing Director of the Sindh Mass Transit Authority Kanwal Nizam Bhutto, Yellow Line Project Director Kamal Dayo, and TransKarachi CEO Fawad Ghaffar Soomro attended the meeting, along with engineers and consultants.
The TransKarachi CEO briefed participants on progress, challenges, and future targets of the Red Line BRT project. Memon said the pace of work on the corridor was generally satisfactory but stressed that it must be accelerated, with daily monitoring to ensure timely completion.
He said the Sindh government’s top priority is to complete the BRT corridor on schedule to ease commuting difficulties, traffic congestion, and daily hardships faced by residents. Memon also directed strict implementation of alternative traffic plans during construction and called for enhanced public awareness campaigns to keep citizens informed.
The minister instructed authorities to speed up the launch of new bus services and select routes where commuters face the most difficulties. He said expanding bus services would provide citizens with safe, affordable, and dignified travel options.
Memon also ordered the early start of construction work on the second phase of the Senator Taj Haider Bridge and reiterated that the Sindh government is taking serious and practical steps to provide Karachi with a modern and efficient public transport system. He said BRT projects and new buses would bring positive change to urban life.
