A White House teleprompter operator has been accused of profiting from wagers linked to U.S. President Donald Trump’s speeches, allegedly earning nearly $100,000 through prediction market bets.
Washington, United States – Web Desk: According to U.S. media reports, Gabriel Perez, a longtime teleprompter operator at the White House, allegedly placed bets on whether specific words and phrases would appear in President Trump’s prepared speeches. The wagers were reportedly made through a U.S.-based prediction market platform.
The platform detected suspicious trading activity during its routine market surveillance and customer monitoring process. Following an internal review, Perez’s account was frozen and the matter was referred to U.S. federal regulators for further investigation.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that President Trump had been briefed on the matter. She said the employee has been placed on unpaid leave and will no longer serve at the White House while the investigation continues.
The allegations have renewed concerns over the potential misuse of privileged access to non-public information in prediction markets, where participants can place wagers on future events, including political speeches and public announcements.
No criminal charges have been announced, and the investigation remains ongoing.
