Move seen as part of Trump’s escalating strategy to tighten control over Venezuelan oil exports
The United States military has seized a seventh oil tanker linked to Venezuela in the Caribbean Sea, further intensifying pressure on Caracas’s energy sector. According to US media reports, the vessel—identified as Motor Vessel Sagitta—was taken into custody without resistance.
US Southern Command confirmed the seizure, stating that the operation was conducted to enforce American sanctions against Venezuela. Officials noted that the tanker was allegedly transporting Venezuelan oil in violation of US restrictions. This marks the seventh such seizure within the past month.
The move is widely viewed as part of former President Donald Trump’s broader efforts to control Venezuela’s oil exports and restrict the regime’s access to global energy markets. Authorities did not clarify whether the US Coast Guard assumed control of the vessel, as seen in previous incidents.
