Washington, USA – Web Desk: US President Donald Trump has announced an increase in global tariffs from 10% to 15% following a recent Supreme Court ruling that declared some of his previously imposed tariffs on foreign countries illegal.
Trump stated that several nations included in the tariffs have historically exploited the United States economically. “As President, I am raising the global tariff rate from 10% to 15%,” he said, adding that his administration will determine new, legally permissible tariffs in the coming months.
The Supreme Court had ruled on Friday that the law Trump invoked to impose additional tariffs—intended for national emergencies—does not authorize him to levy these measures on other countries.
In defiance of the ruling, Trump had initially imposed a 10% tariff immediately after the court’s decision and signaled that he remains committed to asserting US economic leverage. He emphasized that global compliance and cooperation would not last indefinitely.
Experts note that this move could escalate trade tensions with several major economies and affect global markets in the coming months.
