Colombo, Sri Lanka – Web Desk: The much-anticipated ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Super 8 clash between Pakistan and New Zealand was abandoned due to persistent rain in Colombo. No ball could be bowled, and the match was officially called off by the umpires.
Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha had won the toss and elected to bat, while Fawad Zaman was included in the playing XI in place of Khawaja Nafees for this fixture. However, continuous rainfall prevented the start of play.
As a result of the washout, both teams were awarded one point each in the Super 8 standings. Pakistan is set to face England in their second Super 8 match on February 24.
The abandoned match marks another weather disruption in the tournament, raising concerns over scheduling and point allocations amid unpredictable conditions.
