RIYADH – Web Desk: The United States has announced its continued support for Yemen in the face of Houthi attacks, stating that maritime security and counter-terrorism remain top priorities for Washington.
US chargé d’affaires for Yemen Neil Hope met with Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council head Rashad Al-Alimi in Riyadh, according to Anadolu Agency. Hope briefed Al-Alimi on President Donald Trump’s policy priorities regarding Yemen and reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to continued cooperation in various sectors.
The US embassy said the cooperation includes maritime security and counter-terrorism efforts, emphasizing the importance of ensuring safe navigation in the Red Sea and other key maritime routes in the region.
The meeting comes amid escalating tensions between Houthi rebels and Yemeni government forces. Houthi attacks in the Red Sea and other strategic waterways have raised concerns over global maritime trade and regional security. Analysts say the US move is significant amid rising regional tensions and could have implications for regional security and global shipping if the conflict escalates.
