Unconfirmed Reports: Oil Tanker Hit by Missile Near Strait of Hormuz

Date:

MUSCAT/TEHRAN – Web Desk: Unconfirmed reports have emerged of an oil tanker being struck by missiles near the Strait of Hormuz off the coast of Oman, with social media posts claiming the vessel caught fire, though no official confirmation has been provided by credible authorities.

Reports originated from a social media account that shared a video showing what appeared to be fire or explosion at sea during the night. The posts claimed multiple anti-ship cruise missiles were fired from Iran’s southern Sirik region, targeting a tanker in the southern shipping lane near Oman’s coast.

The name, flag, ownership, cargo, crew count, and possible casualties remain unknown. UK Maritime Trade Operations, US Central Command, Iranian state media, and major international news agencies have not confirmed the incident. The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical shipping route under severe pressure amid ongoing Iran-Oman negotiations over new maritime arrangements.
